Historic Places

If you are new to the area, there is plenty to do and see. Milledgeville is the Antebellum Capital of Georgia. You can visit Historic places such as the Old Governor’s Mansion which housed Georgia’s Governors from 1838 to 1868 or swing by the Old Capital Museum which is located at Georgia Military College. The original building at Georgia Military College was the Capitol Building where the legislators met prior to the Capital of Georgia being moved to Atlanta.

 

Downtown

Be sure and take a tour of Downtown Historic Milledgeville on the Trolley Tours that run weekly from the Milledgeville & Baldwin County Convention & Visitors Bureau. The Trolley stops at some of our magnificent Antebellum and Victorian Homes. Then you can have lunch at one of our many downtown cafés and restaurants and be sure to do a little shopping at some of the boutiques while you’re there.

Lake Sinclair

Lake Sinclair is approximately a 15,000-acre lake with over 400 miles of shoreline. Lake Sinclair borders three counties including Baldwin County, Putnam County, and Hancock County. Lake Oconee borders four counties including Green County, Putnam County, Hancock County and Morgan County. Unlike many other Lakes in Georgia, since Lake Sinclair and Lake Oconee are Georgia Power Company lakes they are always at full pool with the water level never fluctuating more than approximately a foot to eighteen inches a day.
